Report from ... Primitivo Lunch - June 27, 2013

The line up of wines ...
and the menu for lunch at Biagio Ristorante
First wine was the 2012 "Sereno" Salento Bianco ($13.95):
nice lemony nose with grapefruit pith backing it up on the palate
with a slight bitterness on the finish. (*** 1/2)
Served with Swordfish Carpaccio
Wine number two is the 2012 "Amoroso" Salento Rosato Primitivo ($13.95):
a basic rose that's pretty with notes of floral and cherry (*** 1/2)
Served with Vitello Tonnato
Onto the main event, the 2007 "Lirica" Primitivo di Manduria ($17.95):
juicy, plummy and smooth - fruit driven with black cherry dominating,
also has nice acidity and hints of licorice (****)
On the plate, Medallions of Beef
Dessert was a "Bavarese con Frutti di Bosco"
And a glass of Sophia's Lemoncella ($19.95)
a beauty of an after dinner drink: lemony, creamy
with delightful vanilla nuances and a great lemon finish
