It was a busy day on the wine tasting front. The day started with the Deutz Champagne tasting moved to Biagio Ristorante for this Tenuta S. Anna lunch and tasting, and later I'll be posting my notes from the Mark Anthony Brands Tasting (coming soon). But let's take a look in on this winery from Italy and see the wines they produce ... it was suppose to be a coming out party for their new to the LCBO Cabernet Franc, but the real stars were Pinot Grigio from the Fruili region and a Prosecco from the Valdobbiadene hills ...

The host of the lunch was Regazzi Wines and Spirits (Ontario agent) and Piero Totis, Export Manager for Tenuta S. Anna. I was unable to stay for the full lunch but I did taste all the wines.

The Wines (in order of favourites) ...
Prosecco Superiore di Valdiabbiadene ($19.95 - #281386) - 100% Glera (grape) lively and fruity with fresh apple, gentle pear, touch of lemon there's also a lovely hint of sweetness (****) |
Cuvee Rose Brut (~$17.95 - N/A in Ontario) 70% Pinot Noir / 30% Merlot little strawberry and floral notes quite pretty (*** 1/2) |
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva ($119.95 / 5000ml - #600080) 100% Cabernet Sauvignon strawberry and smoked cherry - smooth and easy drinking (*** 1/2) |
2011 Cabernet Franc ($13.95 - #338368) 100% Cabernet Franc - new to the LCBO nose: earthy, grassy and raspberry palate: raspberry, smoky and white pepper (*** 1/2) |
The Menu |
Vitello Tonnato ... paired well with the Prosecco (the Cuvee Rose was too fruity for it) |
Tagliolini Lobster - a nice pairing with the Pinot Grigio |
