The annual Bouchard / Fevre / Ponciago tasting comes to town around this time every year and gives us a good look at the state of wines coming out of Burgundy for that vintage year. Plus the bonus of the Ponciago Gamays, out of Beaujolais, is always a treat. Here is a look at my favourites of the day listed by producer:

2012 Chablis Premier Cru - Les Lys Domaine ($58.00) Nose: hits of butter and vanilla with just a touch of VA Taste: follows from the nose adding a lovely butterscotch component (****+) |
2012 Chablis Premier Cru - Mont de Milieu Domaine ($69.00) pear and mineral dominate with an apple vanilla backing (****) |
2012 Chablis Grand Cru - Les Preuses Domaine ($123.00) more weight and presence than the others: butter and caramel apple combine to give a mouth-filling experience with nice balancing acidity (****+) |
2012 Beaune Clos de la Mousse - Premier Cru ($76.00) aromas of violet, black cherry, white pepper with a fruit filled palate that has black and sout cherry. (****) |
2012 Gevrey Chambertin - Village ($66.00) shows quite of bit of pepper and spice intermingling with black cherry fruit and good acidic backbone (****) |
2012 Volnay Caillerets, Ancienne Cuvee Carnots - Premier Cru ($111.00) red cherry and black cherry duke it out which a gentility of spice plays referee (****) |
2012 Pommard Rugiens - Premier Cru ($120.00) seemingly creamy smooth on the palate, silky red cherry caresses the tongue this one is quite simply sippable which being savoury (****+) |
2012 Nuits Saint Georges, Les Cailles - Premier Cru ($146.00) sweet cherry and cranberry with a long finish (****) |
2012 Le Corton - Grand Cru ($175.00) the nose is closed but the palate is a total pleasure: opens with plenty of red fruit and delicious berries and gains complexity from there (****+) |
2012 Chambertin Clos de Beze - Grand Cru ($406.00) gentle spice on both the nose and palate; palate then shows off some nice dark fruit and peppery notes (****) |
2012 Meursault Les Clous - Village ($64.00) floral, butter and caramel lead the charge while adding hints of vanilla for added enjoyment; nice mouth-feel and good finish (****+) |
2012 Chassagne Montrachet Morgeot - Premier Cru ($130.00) apple and lemon with nice acidity and a full mouth-feel (****) |
